Multiple Studies Have Found A Link Between Elmiron and Eye Damage and Vision Problems
Not just one, but two studies have found a link between using Elmiron with serious eye damage such as macular degeneration. An initial study published in 2018 found that patients using Elmiron experienced difficulty reading and “prolonged dark adaptation.” (Translation: the process of someone’s eyes adjusting to darkness or lower light took a longer period of time.)
In 2019, research presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology showed that patients who took Elmiron were at risk for potentially serious vision problems, such as macular damage which can slow vision and lead to blindness.
Elmiron is currently the only oral medication available to treat interstitial cystitis, aka painful bladder syndrome, an already-uncomfortable condition that is difficult to treat.
Here are some of the symptoms associated with eye diseases linked to Elmiron:
- Blurry Vision
- Loss of Night Vision
- Dark Spots
- Blindness
- Difficulty Reading
- Loss of Detailed Vision
